Week Ahead: Morrisons, Aberdeen Asset

It's another shortened week in the UK, but with just as many - if not more - big companies producing results as in a full week.Supermarket group Morrison (Wm.) brings out a trading update on Thursday covering the three months to the beginning of May. Nomura predicts like for like sales growth, excluding fuel and value added tax (VAT) of 1.3% from a year earlier. With fuel included, the broker is tipping growth will hit the 4% mark."With the Netto stores set to come through in Q2 and, we believe, no new store openings in Q1, we expect a new space impact on sales of less than +2%. This should build through not only in 2011 but also 2012 and 2013 to reach +5% (c.8% gross space)," the broker said."As management provided a much greater depth of strategy at the recent prelims and surprised positively with respect to its new space plans, we expect little new information on its strategic initiatives. Nonetheless, trade press continues to highlight the group's quiet progress, notably with trial convenience stores to be opened in the affluent northern towns of Ilkley and Wilmslow, and with a further site in Merseyside," Nomura added.Fund manager Aberdeen Asset Management issues its interim results, with RBS going for underlying profit before tax of £133.2m."In terms of fund flows, we forecast 2Q11 flows of £0.7bn, up from -£0.8bn in 1Q11 (and £0.2bn for two months to 28 February). We expect a dividend of 3.8p, in line with the 2010 final," RBS added.
