London and Dublin listed oil and gas firm Providence Resources said oil production has recommenced on its Ship Shoal 253 field after the completion of repairs to the production facility.Production at Ship Shoal 253 in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut down since August 2008 after hurricanes Gustav and Ike hit the region, and repairs to the oil export pipelines from the field have taken significantly longer than anticipated.Elsewhere, the company has confirmed a well recompletion programme for 2010 for the High Island A-268 and Main Pass 19 fields. “Providence continues to optimise its asset portfolio through recompletes of existing well bores, as well as looking at new opportunities in the region," said Tony O'Reilly, chief executive of Providence.
