Greggs beefs up Q3 sales

Bakery chain Greggs served up a 2.5% rise in third quarter sales and said it is on track to deliver full results in line with company expectations.Like-for-like sales were up by 0.2% in the 16-week period. "Overall business performance in the year to date is in line with our plans and our financial position remains strong," Greggs said.Greggs also said it plans to open 50-60 new shops in 2010 and from 2011 onwards at least 70 per year, creating 6,000 new jobs.The Newcastle-based group said cost inflation is easing overall, in line with company expectations. Selling price inflation is falling and is now running at its lowest level for five years, it added. "Although high street trading conditions remain tough we are building for the long term and remain confident in our ability to build an even stronger, more profitable business," said Greggs.
