Asset manager Henderson Group gained as investors returned to trading after Russia recognised Crimea as a sovereign state. President Vladimir Putin and the leaders of Crimea have signed a bill to absorb the peninsula into Russia. In a speech today, Putin said Russia would work to rebuild its ties with the Ukraine, sending the FTSE 100 higher. Investors are now waiting for the reaction from the West. "Now, with Russia pausing at Crimea, markets can at least turn back to more familiar matters, such as earnings surprise and changes in future cash flows," said Spreadex trader David White. The news also boosted shares of Russia-focused exhibitions and conferences company ITE Group. On the downside, Cairn Energy slumped after reporting a wider annual loss, reflecting unsuccessful exploration costs and the disposal of assets. Xaar was also lower as the printing group warned that growth was likely to be more modest in the current financial year after profits more than doubled on strong sales in 2013. Long-standing Chief Executive Ian Dinwoodie also announced he planned to retire in 2015.FTSE 250 - RisersHenderson Group (HGG) 247.70p +3.77%ITE Group (ITE) 225.80p +2.68%Essar Energy (ESSR) 66.05p +2.64%Ashmore Group (ASHM) 304.50p +1.94%Bellway (BWY) 1,610.00p +1.90%Domino's Pizza Group (DOM) 535.00p +1.90%Grafton Group Units (GFTU) 669.00p +1.52%Kazakhmys (KAZ) 258.80p +1.45%Regus (RGU) 221.10p +1.42%Berkeley Group Holdings (The) (BKG) 2,688.00p +1.36%FTSE 250 - FallersCairn Energy (CNE) 173.80p -11.55%Xaar (XAR) 903.00p -9.47%Moneysupermarket.com Group (MONY) 186.70p -4.74%Dairy Crest Group (DCG) 497.00p -2.93%Diploma (DPLM) 736.00p -2.90%Cranswick (CWK) 1,180.00p -2.80%Keller Group (KLR) 1,025.00p -2.29%Lonmin (LMI) 286.90p -2.28%Alent (ALNT) 318.40p -2.09%Millennium & Copthorne Hotels (MLC) 587.50p -2.08%RD
