Online betting exchange operator Betfair became the top riser after reporting that it has been awarded a licence to operate its betting exchange in the German state of Schleswig Holstein. The firm intends to pay 20 per cent of its gross gaming revenue to the state in return for the licence. Kesa Electricals also rose after saying that its Darty France business has entered into a new commercial agreement with Bouygues Telecom, under which Bouygues will acquire 99.9% of Darty Telecom. Meanwhile, paper and packaging firm Mondi was lower after operating profits fell from €179m to €120m in the first quarter with the group saying that the weaker trading environment last year continued into 2012. West African gold exploration and mining company Avocet was also down after it saw production dive in the first quarter due to availability issues with two of the excavators at its Inata mine. As a result, revenues in the first quarter of the year fell from $87.8m last year to $60.3m, while sales costs came in at $36m compared to $63.7m the previous year.
