SYDNEY (Dow Jones)--The Association of Mining & Exploration Companies has set a two-week deadline for a resolution to talks on the Australian government's proposed resource super profits tax, failing which it will resume its advertising campaign against the tax, says the Australian Financial Review Tuesday. New prime minister Julia Gillard has promised to consult the industry over the new tax but hasn't provided a timetable for the negotiations. The mining association met in Perth Monday. AMEC chief executive Simon Bennison said, according to the report, "We've said up to two weeks. We want resolution to this situation. We want to know what they're putting on the table and what we're going to negotiate out of this." He added that without a deal, "the campaign is back on full and we run this to the election."
