Multinational food processing and retailing company, Associated British Foods, announced it has appointed Ruth Cairnie as a non-executive director with effect from May 1st.Cairnie was formerly Executive Vice President Strategy & Planning at Royal Dutch Shell, the oil and gas exploration company. This role followed a number of other senior international roles within the group. Those include Vice President of their Global Commercial Fuels business and serving on the boards of the Shell Pakistan as well as the firm's joint-venture companies in Germany and Thailand. Cairnie is currently a non-executive director of Keller group.On April 23rd the FTSE-100 constituent, which is a part of the Weston family's UK arm, said it plans to expand its retail division by opening its first Primark store in North America in 2015.
