South America focused oil and gas firm, Amerisur Resources, said it expects to begin drilling of new locations in Columbia in the final quarter of 2011.The company applied to the Columbian government in January to build an access road and eight new drilling locations in its Platanillo field. However, its application for the modifications to the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development has yet to be accepted. The firm said the delay meant it would probably only complete three new wells in 2011.Chief executive, John Wardle, said the "tremendous growth of activity in the petroleum and mining sectors in Colombia" had led to a backlog of applications that was affecting the whole industry."All preparations for the drilling programme are complete, and have been so for some time, hence once we receive the approval of the environmental modification I expect to achieve rapid progress," he said.
