(Sharecast News) - Engineering and consulting company Wood Group has secured two solar engineering, procurement and construction contracts worth over $200m.
Wood Group said on Tuesday that it had been selected to deliver two major solar projects in the US state of Virginia by an unnamed American power and energy company following a competitive tender process.

The FTSE 250-listed firm said its first project covered a 120-megawatt solar facility in Pittsylvania County, expected to be operational in 2022, while the second was for a 70-megawatt solar facility in Chesapeake, which was set to be operational in late 2021.

Stephanie Cox chief executive of Wood's Asset Solutions Americas business, said: "These contracts build on a 10-year relationship with our client, for whom we've executed more than 40 projects.

"We are seeing an unstoppable momentum towards a lower-carbon energy environment and Wood is proud to partner with clients that are committed to investing in a sustainable energy future."

The contract awards also follow a series of other recent wins, including $100m of onshore wind projects, that will see Wood's US renewables business double in size during 2020.

As of 0905 BST, Wood shares were up 9.14% at 230.18p.
