(Sharecast News) - Low-cost European carrier Wizz Air said on Tuesday that passenger numbers surged in July as the group continued to grow its network amid a gradual return for international travel demand.
Wizz Air said passenger numbers shot up 62% to 2.95m in July, while the airline's capacity increased 24.9% to 2.76m and load factor grew 18.0 percentage points to 78.5%.

Available seat kilometres rose 20.9% to 5.84m and revenue passenger kilometres jumped 55% to 4.56m.

Elsewhere, Wizz officially opened its Rome Fiumicino base in Italy, with the airline commencing operations with four Airbus A321 aircraft, providing 32 new services from the country's largest aviation market.

Wizz Air also highlighted that it continued to operate in the lowest CO2 emissions per passenger per kilometre amongst all competitor airlines, with 72 grams per passenger/km for the 12 months ended 31 July. For the month of July, emissions in grams per passenger/km were 20.3% lower year-on-year at 64.6.

As of 0855 BST, Wizz Air shares were up 0.20% at 5,084.0p.
