(Sharecast News) - Hungarian budget carrier Wizz Air said January passenger numbers plunged 81.8% year on year as the new variants of the coronavirus and travel bans battered demand.
Passenger volumes fell to 573,692 from 3,158,656 in January 2020. Capacity plummeted 73% and the load factor declined by 29.2 percentage points to 61%.

Wizz last month vowed to use the coronavirus crisis to win market share from rivals including easyJet, after reporting a slump in quarterly revenue.

The east-Europe focused airline has €1.2bn in cash, excluding €500m raised in a bond sale in January, enough to weather another two years of crisis.
