Week ahead: UK housebuilders, recruiters in focus; US bank earnings eyed

(Sharecast News) - Next week sees the release of trading statements from housebuilders Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey and Vistry, recruitment firms PageGroup, Hays and Robert Walters, and key US bank earnings.

Persimmon will release a trading update on Tuesday. Aarin Chiekrie, equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said the company's November update showed second-half sales rates trending in the right direction, despite a softening market ahead of the UK budget.

"Between July and mid-November, both the order book and average selling prices were in growth territory, too. As a result, full-year underlying pre-tax profit guidance of around £429 million looks within reach when the company issues its trading update next week," he said.

"Affordability issues for buyers remain top of the agenda heading into 2026. But with Persimmon's homes typically priced around 15% below the new-build national average, it offers some resilience to ride current market challenges. Its in-house materials business is a key differentiator to the competition and should provide some relief on the build cost front. Investors are also keen to see how well the order book's holding up heading into the new year when it updates investors next week."

Sticking with housebuilders, Taylor Wimpey will update the market on Monday and Vistry on Wednesday.

Recruiters will also be in the spotlight, with a Q4 update due from PageGroup on Tuesday and Hays set to update the market on Wednesday on trading in the three months to 31 December. Robert Walters is slated to update on Q4 on Thursday.

Homeware retailer Dunelm will release a trading update on Thursday. Analysts at AJ Bell said that from a strategic point of view, investors will look to the company for comment on its store roll-out programme, across different sizes and formats, notably in and around London.

"The ongoing digital drive will also be an area of focus," said analysts Danni Hewson, Russ Mould and Dan Coatsworth.

"According to the first-quarter trading update, digital sales represented 40% of the annual total, up from 37% in the first quarter of the prior year, helped by strong performance in the click-and-collect format, although this figure also includes sales made in store via a tablet."

A Q3 trading update from Premier Inn owner Whitbread on Tuesday is also among the corporate highlights.

Across the pond, bank earnings will be eyed, with Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citigroup and Wells Fargo among those slated to report.
