Week ahead: FOMC minutes in focus, China data possible

The coming week will see the flow of data slow in most jurisdictions, but traders following UK markets will have quite a bit to keep them on their toes.Nevertheless, the key risk event of the week is likely to be Wednesday evening's FOMC minutes, what with investors waiting on every word that comes out of Fed officials' mouths. In traditional fashion, it will be followed by speeches from several Fed policy makers on Thursday, just in case there is a need for damage control.Following the latest monthly non-farm payrolls data the risk continues to exist, analysts say, that the US central bank might yet opt to move on interest rates before June 2015. That is by no means certainty, but is nevertheless considered to be a possibility.The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will meet on Thursday. No change in policy is expected but markets are closely watching the Bank of England given the widespread expectation that it will be the first major central bank to move on rates.Markets will also be waiting on the results of the latest house prices surveys, courtesy of Halifax and RICS. The latest figures on British industrial production are also due for release on Tuesday.In the Eurozone the most important data releases will be the industrial production figures due out in Germany, France and Italy towards the end of the week. The statistics which are set for release in those countries will be the mostly watched given recent weak PMI readings and the deterioration in at least the immediate outlook for their economies.A speech from ECB president Mario Draghi himself on Thursday will also be closely watched.Last, but certainly not least, starting on Friday it may behoove investors to switch towards China watching.
