Vodafone forms new partnership to develop 5G technology

Telecoms giant Vodafone has partnered with Dresden University of Technology to research and develop 5G technology.The two will work together to explore the capabilities of 5G and establish technical guidelines for its development.The FTSE 100 company said the partnership was part of its global programme focused on researching the next generation of wireless technologies with universities, technology companies and industry groups around the world."Vodafone is proud to be taking a leadership role in the development of the next generation of wireless communications," Luke Ibbetson, Vodafone's head of research and development, said."While 5G is in very early stages of development it's important that we invest the time and effort to really understand the technology."Once developed the technology is expected to radically enhance the speed, resilience and intelligence of mobile networks.It also has the potential to substantially increase the number of devices that can simultaneously connect to a network and expand the reach of ultra-fast mobile networks.Shares in the group had risen 1.88% to 208.10p by 11:35.
