(Sharecast News) - Wall Street trading got off to a mixed start on Friday after a tech‑led rebound in the previous session helped give stocks a boost following the Federal Reserve's first rate hike in three years.

As of 1500 BST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.39% at 51,577.60, while the S&P 500 shed 0.11% to 7,629.43 and the Nasdaq Composite came out of the gate 0.13% firmer at 26,453.85.

The Dow opened 200.44 points lower on Friday, taking a bite out of gains recorded in the previous session.

Treasury yields were in focus early on Friday, with the yield on the ten‑year Treasury note, which hit its highest level since July 2007 earlier in the week, up more than six basis points at 4.999%, as was the two‑year note at 4.745%, while the 30‑year note was almost four basis points higer to 5.328%.

Oil prices were mixed as markets weighed fresh cross‑border strikes between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi movement against signs that additional Saudi crude could reach global markets and help ease supply concerns. Brent crude futures were down 0.02% at $104.80 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate futures were up 1.38% at $103.32 a barrel. The renewed clashes added to worries that the widening Middle East conflict could further disrupt already strained energy supplies following February's US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

On the macro front, US industrial production was flat in August, according to the Federal Reserve, as a dip in manufacturing offset modest gains elsewhere. Total output held steady after a 0.2% increase in July, leaving production 1.4% higher than a year earlier. Manufacturing output fell 0.3%, ending a seven‑month run of gains, while mining edged up 0.1% and utilities rose 1.8%. Capacity utilisation was unchanged at 76.3%, around three percentage points below its long‑run average.

Across market groups, consumer‑goods output inched up 0.1%, supported by non-durable goods, while business equipment and defence and space equipment declined 0.5% and 1.2%, respectively. Construction supplies fell 0.7%, business supplies ticked up 0.1%, and materials output increased 0.2%, driven by stronger energy production. Within manufacturing, durable‑goods output dropped 0.5% amid broad‑based weakness, while non-durables were unchanged. Other manufacturing, including publishing and logging, rose 1%. Capacity utilisation in manufacturing slipped to 75.7%, while mining edged up to 86.3% and utilities climbed to 71.3%.

No major corporate earnings were slated for release on Friday.
