Power systems developer Rolls-Royce has awarded a contract to defence industry supplier Ultra Electronic Holdings' command and control systems business. The £24m contract covers the procurement of long lead time materials for use in Royal Navy submarines. A further contract covering the production of the equipment sets is anticipated in the next twelve months. The contract continues Ultra's involvement in the development of this equipment; the company was awarded a contract back in 2004 to be the equipment integrator for the control and instrumentation suite. The role required "the full spectrum of system engineering skills, embracing requirements capture, architecture design, development, verification and qualification," Ultra said."This contract positions the group for the long-term support of the UK's strategic defence assets," said Ultra's chief executive Douglas Caster.
