Defence products supplier Ultra Electronics has won a contract with the US Navy to provide a system for releasing bombs from planes using pneumatic energy.The company's precision air systems business will work with US defence contractor Raytheon, with Ultra providing its HiPPAG airborne compressor for use with Raytheon's bomb racks. Ultra said that the initial contract awarded to prime contractor Raytheon is worth about $6m, with work expected to be finished in 2014. Initial production will take place between 2014 and 2016, with full-rate production starting in 2017.'It is really good news that Ultra's HiPPAG compressors are to be used in the US Navy's MPBR (Multi-Purpose Bomb Rack) systems,' Ultra's chief executive Douglas Caster said.'Raytheon is an excellent partner and we are committed to delivering a successful programme.'
