Tuesday preview: Guidance from TUI may please

Investors will wake up on Tuesday to find their screens covered with a barrage of alerts regarding the latest batch of macroeconomic data out overnight in the People´s Republic China. Said reports will include the latest readings on industrial production, fixed asset investment and new bank loans. That follows figures out over the weekend showing that Chinese import rose by 5.3% year-on-year in November, slightly below a forecast gain of 7%, which saw some observers air skeptical remarks regarding the outlook for growth in the country.Traders will also be catching up with the latest remarks out from three Federal Reserve speakers overnight as well as from Bank of England Governor Mark Carney. The latter was due to speak in New York at 17:20 on Monday evening.Apart from China the flow of data is scheduled to be rather light, although a speech by European Central Bank President Mario Drgahi, at 11:00, will be closely watched. In the UK, the latest industrial production numbers - courtesy of the Office for National Statistics - will inform market participants about whether the latest manufacturing sector surveys are to be believed, or to what extent. Government statisticians will also put out their October estimates for the country´s visible trade deficit for public scrutiny. On the company front, TUI Travel is due to publish results. Analysts at Numis expect the firm to announce full-year profits before tax of £465m and a 15% rise in its earnings per share to 29.6p. A full-year dividend of 12.9p is also expected. Perhaps most important of all, the broker thinks the travel company may beat market expectations for it to guide towards broadly flat seasonal losses in the first half of its new fiscal year.
