Human tissue supplier Asterand has been boosted by the late announcement that Inflection Point Investments took a 4.11% stake at the end of October. Inflection Point says that it invests in small or medium sized companies "positioned at the bottleneck of new structural Emerging Growth themes". The investor looks for companies with a crucial product with high barriers to entry or first mover advantage. Inflection Point is co-managed by former Goldman Sachs employees Charles Elliott and Sasha Karim. They generally invest for at least 18-24 months. Asterand reported a 30% rise in revenues in the three months to September 2010. Nine month revenues were flat at $14.1m. First half revenues had been lower. There was a $3.8m contribution from the BioSeek acquisition but the corresponding period included $3.7m of one-off revenue. There is $2.9m in the bank. Educational IT services provider RM has agreed a £4.5m contract with Borough of Barking and Dagenham. This is part of the Building Schools for the Future programme which has been curtailed by the government. The market was pleased that this contract is going ahead.
