Strong results from Apple have boosted chip maker ARM, which is an important supplier to the US technology firm. Apple reported better than expected second quarter profits of $4.03bn on revenues of $13.5bn. iPhone shipments more than doubled to 8.75m and ARM is believed to supply chips for the iPhone. Goldman Sachs has said that the iPad will help to increase ARM's royalty revenues. Shares in aerospace and defence systems group Meggitt have fallen after it said that it was having a challenging first half to its financial year. Meggitt says it is in position to take advantage of an upturn in the civil aerospace markets which is anticipated to start benefitting the group in the second half of the year. The military side got off to a slow start but should improve in the second half.
