Shell hands Petrofac £149m of work in Iraq

Oil services company Petrofac has won a contract worth more than $240m (£149m) with Shell to develop facilities in the Majnoon field, Southern Iraq. The UK firm will provide engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction management services to develop a new early production system that will include two trains each capable of carrying 50,000 barrels of oil a day.Work on the project began in the middle of last year and should be over by the end of 2012. "Majnoon is one of Iraq's largest developments and we are delighted to be working with Shell to assist them with unlocking the field's potential," Petrofac chief Ayman Asfari says. "Iraq's geographic location, adjacent to many of our existing areas of operation, made it a natural market for the group as we continue to broaden our geographic footprint."
