Supermarket operator Sainsbury's has as expected announced the appointment of David Tyler as its chairman.Tyler, who is also chairman of the IT contracting company Logica, will start his new role on 1 November after a handover from Philip Hampton, who has been appointed as chairman of Royal Bank of Scotland.Tyler comes with bags of retail experience, having been chief number cruncher at GUS, which used to own Argos, Homebase and Burberry.He will be paid £450,000 a year in his current role, for working two to three days a week. 'I am delighted to take on the role of chairman of Sainsbury's, said Tyler. 'The company plays a major part in the lives of millions of people each week and the group's performance has demonstrated that the brand is flexible and attractive to a wide range of customers.'Justin King, chief executive said: 'David has a broad range of experience that makes him ideal for the chairman role and I look forward to working with him.'
