Mining giant Anglo American has added former Sainsbury chairman, Sir Philip Hampton, to the board in a non-executive role.Hampton has been chairman of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) since February 2009.Prior to joining RBS, Hampton was group finance director of Lloyds TSB, as it was then named, from 2002 to 2004, and before that he had spells as group finance director of telecoms giant BT Group and oil and gas leviathan BG Group.‘I am delighted to welcome Sir Philip Hampton to Anglo American, the first in a series of appointments as we refresh the board,’ said Sir John Parker, chairman of Anglo American.Current Anglo American directors Sir Rob Margetts and Dr. Chris Fay are due to step down from the board in April 2010.
