Shares in medical food and dietary supplement developer Provexis shot up on Tuesday after it published the results of a trial of its Fruitflow product, which is designed to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and venous thrombosis.Fruitflow, a tomato extract which counters unwanted clot formation in the bloodstream, was tested against and with aspirin for its anti-thrombotic properties. The trial was conducted by Provexis, with the statistical analysis performed by an independent body, BIOSS. ‘Fruitflow showed up to 30% reduction from baseline platelet aggregation in each of three different biological pathways, while a single dose of aspirin caused up to 60% reduction in a single pathway, with lesser effects on the other two,’ Provexis said. Platelets are bodies that are present in blood which, in conjunction with other substances, form clots to stop bleeding.‘The broader antiplatelet effect of Fruitflow reflects the company's aim to provide a daily dietary supplement with a significant effect on blood flow, but without suppressing platelet aggregation completely,’ the company added. There were no negative effects of using aspirin and Fruitflow together.
