LONDON (Dow Jones)--Project Canvas, a six-party joint venture to bring Internet content and new video-on-demand services to U.K. television, said Friday it has appointed media and telecom executive Kip Meet as its non-executive chairman. Meet's appointment comes just a few weeks after the British Broadcasting Corp.'s controlling unit approved the BBC's involvement in the venture. He will step down from his full-time role at Ingenious Media and his non-executive positions at the Broadband Stakeholder Group and Phorm. Project Canvas, which is a collaboration between the BBC, ITV PLC (ITV.LN), BT Group PLC (BT.A.LN), Channel 4, TalkTalk Telecom Group PLC (TALK.LN) and Arqiva Ltd., is expected to launch early next year. -By Lilly Vitorovich, Dow Jones Newswires; 44-0-207 842 9290; [email protected] (END) Dow Jones Newswires July 23, 2010 04:50 ET (08:50 GMT)
