Petrofac wins 1.7bn-dollar refinery contract in Kuwait

Petrofac's joint venture with Samsung Engineering and CB&I Nederland has been awarded a 3.7bn-dollar contract by Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).The UK oilfield services group's share of the contract is worth $1.7bn.The work relates to KNPC's Clean Fuels Project in Kuwait and will see the contractors provide engineering, procurement and construction services at the Mina Abdulla (MAB1) refinery over the next four years.They will construct 19 new refining units at Mina Abdulla, revamp five existing units at the Shouaiba refinery site and the accompanying inter-refinery transfer lines.KNPC's Clean Fuels Project is one of its major investment strategies to help it reach a daily production target of around 800,000 barrels of oil per day."This will be our ninth project in Kuwait and I am delighted we have secured the opportunity to work with KNPC, who is a new customer for us," said Subramanian Sarma, Managing Director of Petrofac's Onshore Engineering & Construction business.BC
