(Sharecast News) - Patent and trade mark attorney practice Murgitroyd Group announced on Friday that Willie MacDiarmid had been appointed to its board as non-executive director and deputy chairman, with effect from 1 April.The AIM-traded firm said he was taking on the latter role from Edward Murgitroyd, who became chief executive officer of the group in February.It said MacDiarmid was a "proven executive", with a range of public company experience in both executive and non-executive roles - most notably in the utilities and business services sectors.He held senior positions, including energy retail director, with Scottish Power from 1989 until 2006.Between 2009 and 2012, he was chief operating officer of EAGA, and in 2012 a non-executive director and then chief executive of May Gurney, before becoming interim CEO of Barchester Healthcare in 2014.MacDiarmid was appointed a non-executive director of Smart Metering Systems in 2014, and became chairman in 2016.He was currently chairman of Fallago Rigg - a joint venture between Hermes Capital and EDF Renewables - and chairman of Ogilvie Group, which is a Stirling-based family owned business with interests spanning construction, fleet hire and IT.MacDiarmid also worked with senior executives across various industries, mentoring and providing one-to-one coaching."I would like to welcome Willie MacDiarmid to the board of Murgitroyd," said chairman Ian Murgitroyd."Willie possesses a wealth of expertise and experience and we are delighted to have been able to attract an individual with Willie's track record and credentials to join our board."
