Mothercare revealed a 7% rise in second quarter sales and issued a confident outlook for the remainder of the year.UK like-for-like sales during the thirteen weeks ended 10 October 2009 rose 3% while international retail sales during the period surged 23.2%. Direct in Home sales also put in a strong performance, rising 11.3%."The Mothercare and Early Learning Centre brands have performed well across all channels," said chief executive Ben Gordon in a company statement.He added, "This strong trading performance has offset the increases in costs arising from the continuing weakness of Sterling, pensions and share based payments.""Whilst the economic environment remains uncertain, our first half performance and the strategic initiatives we have taken give us confidence for the rest of the year."
