Morrisons to cut 2,600 jobs amid management shake-up

William Morrison Supermarkets has confirmed plans to slash 2,600 jobs as part of plans to re-organise and simplify its management structure.Having trialled the new structure on a small scale, the retail chain has decided to roll out the plan across the group. Chief Executive Dalton Philips said it was "the right time" to modernise the management of its stores. "These changes will improve our focus on customers and lead to simpler, smarter ways of working," he added. The roles most at risk include department managers and those in supervisory positions. It comes as the group plans to create 4,000 jobs, a quarter of which will be at its Morrisons M local stores, with the rest at new supermarkets. The group will now undertake a 45-day consultation period with shop-workers union USDAW, which has pledged to safeguard as many jobs as possible. NR
