(Sharecast News) - Man Group is to expand its strategic relationship with Meiji Yasuda Insurance Company, the alternative investment management firm announced on Monday, nearly two years after first announcing the partnership.
The Japanese insurer has agreed to increase its capital commitment to the British firm's investment strategies to ¥200bn (£940m) over the next three years, with a particular focus on private credit. The two companies, who first announced the partnership in February 2025, will also work together to develop new products for the Japanese market.
Man said the extension supported its ambitions to grown its private client platform and serve large insurance clients globally.
As part of the latest deal, Meiji Yasuda is also considering acquiring a 5% equity stake in Man, "to further align interests", the British firm noted. Financial terms were not disclosed. However, Man confirmed that any shares acquired by Meiji Yasuda would be subject to a three-year lock up, while a standstill restriction would cap the acquisition at 19.99% of Man's issued share capital.
Robyn Grew, chief executive, said: "We have built a deeply important relationship with Meiji Yasuda over several years, and are very pleased to expand our strategic partnership.
"The intention to acquire an equity stake reflects our shared vision for the future and further aligns the long-term interests of both companies."
Hideki Nagashima, Meiji Yasuda chief executive, said: "Through this expansion of our strategic partnership, we will further promote access to broad range of investment strategies, the sharing of advanced knowledge and personnel exchanges, thereby further enhancing our assets management capabilities."
Shares in Man jumped as trading got underway, putting on 4% at 325.4p by 0820 GMT.
