Lookers exec buys shares after strong first quarter

Lookers has seen the Managing Director of its Motor Division top up his stake in the UK new and used car dealer two times in the last week, following a bullish trading update earlier this month.Andy Bruce, who joined the firm in 2000 and was appointed to the board two years later, bought a total of 135,000 ordinary shares in Lookers at a price of 105p each via transactions on May 24th and 28th. The combined £141,750 purchase pushed his stake to 0.13%, equal to 502,086 shares.The company, which has a market capitalisation of around £400m, said earlier this month that its performance in the first quarter was "excellent" with results both ahead of budget and better than the previous year."Whilst economic conditions are still affecting consumer confidence, we continue to improve the operational and financial performance of the group," the firm said on May 15th.The firm also announced this month that it had bought Shields Automotive, a Land Rover dealership in Scotland, in an effort to strengthen its position in the region.Lookers beat expectations across the board with its full-year results in March, recording revenues of nearly £2.1bn in 2012, an 8.3% increase on the year before, helped by improving conditions in the motor retail market.
