Lonmin, Amplats and Impala in mediation with mining union over strikes

Platinum producers Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), Impala Platinum and Lonmin on Friday collectively announced that facilitated mediation with the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) is continuing under the supervision of the Labour Court. The companies and AMCU "welcomed the initiative of the Labour Court to mediate a resolution of the protracted wage strike in the sector", a statement issued by Lonmin read. "The parties have fully embraced this process with talks led by Judge Hilary Rabkin Naicker," it continued. "The process is unfolding and the parties are encouraged that they share a common commitment to endeavour to resolve this dispute."Shares in Lonmin jumped 2.94% to 255.30p following the announcement.NR
