Johnson Service returns to the black

Shares in drycleaner and work wear provider Johnson Service soared as it swung into a first half profit and resumed dividend payments following good performances at two of its key divisions.The group's Stalbridge Linen subsidiary returned to profit while results at dry cleaners Johnson Cleaners came in better than expected. Johnson reported a pre-tax came in at £5.4m in the half year ended 30 June 2009 compared with a loss of £7.5m the year before. Revenue fell to £120.0m from £130.1m previously. Chairman John Talbot said, "Despite the challenges of the economy both on us directly and indirectly through our customers, the board is confident in achieving a satisfactory result for the year."The group has resumed dividend payments and has recommended an interim payment of 0.25p.
