(Sharecast News) - Energy storage and clean fuel company ITM Power announced on Tuesday that Toyota Australia has purchased a 0.25MW rapid-response PEM electrolyser from it.The AIM-traded firm had announced the formation of ITM Power Pty - a wholly owned subsidiary incorporated in Australia - on 18 December, as well as the appointment of Dr Neil Thompson as managing director, and membership of Hydrogen Mobility Australia.Toyota Australia marked the announcement of ITM's first customer in the new territory.It said the electrolyser would generate hydrogen on-site at Toyota's facilities in Altona, Melbourne using renewable energy to split water.The hydrogen would be utilised for refuelling Toyota's fuel cell electric vehicles, including the Toyota Mirai."We are delighted to be working with Toyota in Australia and making our first sale in this exciting new territory," said Dr Neil Thompson."We look forward to working closely with Toyota Australia, a fellow member of Hydrogen Mobility Australia."ITM Power chief executive officer, Dr Graham Cooley, added that Australia was an "important" new market for ITM Power, with the company "working hard" to build commercial relationships with its partners."I am delighted to be working closely with Toyota as it continues to explore and showcase opportunities for hydrogen in Australia including the Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle."The valuable work of Hydrogen Mobility Australia and their members is also a key focus for our business development activities."
