By Jason Douglas Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES LONDON (Dow Jones)--Haulier Wincanton PLC (WIN.LN) Thursday said it is eyeing more opportunities in the public sector following a recent joint venture with outsourcing specialist Serco Group PLC (SRP.LN). "Public sector outsourcing isn't something we have been heavily involved in but there's quite a lot of opportunities in the medium term," Wincanton Group Chief Executive Officer Graeme McFaull told Dow Jones Newswires. The logistics company said Tuesday it entered a joint venture with outsourcing firm Serco to bid for prisoner escort services in the U.K. The U.K. government is expected to turn to outsourcing as part of its efforts to drive down public spending. McFaull said Wincanton believes its expertise in managing large workforces and squeezing out savings could prove attractive to government departments. He wasn't specific on particular projects because the government hasn't announced precise plans yet, but said Wincanton is increasingly active in the defense sector, where customers include BAE Systems PLC (BA.LN) and General Dynamics Corp. (GD). -By Jason Douglas, Dow Jones Newswires; 44-20-7842-9272;
