(Sharecast News) - Solid-state battery technology developer Ilika announced the successful shipment of its stacked 'Stereax M300' batteries to its first customers on Thursday.

The AIM-traded firm said among the recipients of the initial shipments were CubeWorks, a developer of millimetre-scale smart sensing solutions for the 'internet-of-things' (IoT); and Lura Health, a developer of wearable intraoral biosensors for salivary diagnostics.

It said the configuration of Stereax batteries allowed for stacking, enabling customers to customise the battery capacity to suit their specific applications.

CubeWorks was currently designing 'CubiSens', described as an advanced sensing platform aiming to "revolutionise" various sectors such as biopharmaceutical cold chain logistics, security control, asset protection, and environmental monitoring.

Lura Health was meanwhile pioneering the world's first salivary diagnostic wearable sensor, initially embedded in traditional orthodontic appliances such as retainers, bands, and brackets.

Eventually, the technology would be integrated into prosthodontic appliances such as dentures, implants, and bridges.

Ilika explained that the wearable sensor would be worn in the mouth through the day, continuously measuring analytes in saliva, and providing real-time health data streams via Bluetooth Low Energy to a smartphone.

In addition to those developments, Ilika said it was in the process of finalising the terms of its intended partnership with Cirtec Medical.

Cirtec is a strategic outsourcing partner specialising in complex medical devices, including minimally invasive and active implantable devices.

The board said the collaboration between Ilika and Cirtec was aiming to leverage their respective expertise to advance medical technology in the field.

"Building on the first shipments of Stereax M50 cells last month, our team has delivered the first batches of Stereax M300 batteries to support our customers' product development programmes," said chief executive officer Graeme Purdy.

"CubeWorks and Lura Health are strong examples of breakthrough technology being enabled by Stereax products.

"We will work closely with Cirtec to jointly market Stereax technology, and ramp-up production capacity to support our customers' needs going forward."

At 1214 BST, shares in Ilika were up 8.89% at 49p.
