Chinese mine operator Griffin Mining said its Caijiaying zinc-gold mine returned to profitability in the third quarter. The mine processed 114,233 tonnes of ore to produce 6,783 tonnes of zinc, 1,351 ounces of gold, 38,019 ounces of silver and 218 tonnes of lead.Production at the mine was suspended for the first five months of 2009. In June, the company processed 33,152 tonnes of ore.The company is set to start work on improving ventilation and other facilities below the 1300 level in anticipation of being granted permission by the Chinese authorities to mine below this level; the application for a licence to mine below this level was submitted this month.‘Although the delays in obtaining a permit to mine below the 1300 level have been frustrating, I have been very happy with the performance of Caijiaying since the recommencement of operations,’ said Griffin chairman Mladen Ninkov.
