Paper and packaging group Mondi raced into the top spot after saying underlying profit for the fourth quarter of 2011 is expected to be on a par with the corresponding quarter of 2010. Software group Misys was climbing amid reports that it has gained interest from various buyout groups. Speculators say a new approach could be on its way, with offers of 375p a share, compared with yesterday's closing price of 290.3p. The stock had lost more than 13% in just five days. Carpetright also headed higher on speculation founder of the company Lord Harris is considering taking the UK floorcoverings retailer private at a price of 700p per share, according to The Telegraph. Meanwhile, mobile telecoms firm Cable and Wireless Worldwide was settling back down after Monday's news which saw Vodafone confirm it considering a takeover.Vodafone said yesterday that it was still in the very early stages of assessing whether to make a bid and indicated that if it were to do so, the offer would likely be in the form of cash for shares. Rotork was suffering from a downgrade by UBS from buy to neutral, with the broker saying that the engineer's current share price "looks about right in our view and a blue skies scenario does not tempt us either."
