Following the trend seen on the top tier index, mining stocks made strong gains, boosted in part by a strong four-month gain in iron ore stocks. They were also helped by yesterday's news that activity in China's services sector in October expanded at its fastest pace in the last year, reinforcing confidence that the world's largest economy is on a stable growth path. The strongest gains were made by Kazakhmys, Polymetal, and African Barrick Gold. Meanwhile, wireless technology group CSR saw its shares plunge after saying fourth-quarter revenue was to be lower than widely expected, in the range of $195m-$215m. Shopping centre owner Intu Properties has reported a solid third quarter, boosted by a what it described as the 'gradual recovery' of the UK retail environment, although the news failed to impress investors. Occupancy levels remained stable at 95%, including 1% of rent currently being traded by administrators, with no significant tenant failures in the quarter. TeleCity, the data-centre firm, retreated one day after reporting 'satisfactory' trading in the third quarter, with forecasts for the full-year unchanged.
