FTSE 250 movers: Miners and automotive links hit mid-caps

(ShareCast News) - Like its larger benchmark counterpart, the FTSE 250 index pared early gains to finish Monday's session in negative territory.By the close, the second-line index was down 0.25% to 16,925.69 points.Platinum miner Lonmin, one of the index's most volatile stocks, was down by more than 6% as trades were altered on the back of a decline in the rate of global car sales being down 1% in August, worse than the month before, which hit platinum sales as the metal is used in catalytic converters.Also linked to car sales, the sector team at Exane said they believed the market is "not far from the top of one of the strongest production and margin recovery cycles we have ever seen". Counseling caution, the broker on Monday decided to remove Inchcape from its 'Deep Value/Recovery' list, yet the automotive distributor and retailer was 1.5% higher. Auto Trader Group was a faller, however.Copper miner KAZ Minerals was down on renewed concerns about the massive market of China, which saw three-month copper prices down 0.8% on the day. KAZ and more diversified Vedanta Resources were both downgraded by RBC Capital Markets to 'underperform'.Home Retail was down along with several other FTSE 350 retailers slipped on industry data BRC-Springboard survey highlighted the low footfall hitting the retail industry in August. The overall rate of footfall fell below the twelve-month moving average of minus 1.4%, coming in at minus 1.6%.Among the risers was Man Group, after Exane published an 'outperform' rating on the hedge fund giant as analysts think a number of upside risks have been overlooked.
