Liberum Capital comments pushed Ted Baker shares higher after rating them a 'buy'. Betfair climbed after posting earnings rather than losses (before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) for the half year, despite revenue falling six per cent. Intellectual property commercialisation firm IP Group rose after it announced that it has signed partnerships with Columbia University in New York City and the University of Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, and as on the top tier, mining stocks tracked metal prices lower, while concerns over US tapering and negative comments from UBS weighed heavily. "The UBS precious metals commodity team has revised down 2014 and 2015 gold and silver prices, seeing few positive catalysts medium-term, with QE-tapering to start in January, gold struggling to attract the safe-haven bid, and physical buying having limits," the bank said.Market Strategist Ishaq Siddiqi from ETX Capital explained: "The better than forecast US ISM manufacturing report released Monday prompted concern that upbeat performance of the US economy, as indicated by recent data, could see the Fed initiate tapering at this month's policy meeting." Shares in pubs group Greene King declined despite its first half results coming in on track, with investors growing concerned after the company revealed consumer spending had remained somewhat cautious, particularly outside London and in the south east.
