Apparels and sports and athletic inspired fashion retailers rose sharply on Tuesday, pushing the mid-cap stock index higher. The top risers on the FTSE 250 included Carpetright and Sports Direct. Dixons Retail, whose shares had lost more than 4% since its earnings report on June 23, also climbed higher. Also boosting the index was catalogue retail firm N Brown Group, which reported 5.1% increase in total group revenue in the year till July 2. Shares of maternity retailer Mothercare brushed-off attacks by activist shareholder VGI Partners, who claimed the company's senior directors were awarded "highly excessive" incentive payments. On the other hand, travel and entertainment companies were mixed with Betfair Group and Thomas Cook Group lagging behind peers like Ladbrokes, William Hill and National Express.
