Military equipment maker Chemring was the biggest faller after saying that its traditional markets "will not be any easier this year". Investors seemed to focus more on what finnCap called a "lacklustre" outlook statement and less on the 25% rise in revenue and 6% improvement in underlying pre-tax profits.PZ Cussons, the 'Imperial Leather' soap maker, also fell after warning that full-year profits will be at the lower end of market expectations, as it struggles with problems largely beyond its control, including civil unrest in Nigeria, its largest market. Meanwhile, mining peers New World Resources, Talvivaara and African Barrick Gold were among the worst performers as risk appetite is scaled back. Global markets were on the decline today after the European finance ministers' decision to reject the offer made by Greece's private sector creditors on the coupon rate to be assigned to the country's new debt.Allied Gold, however, bucked the trend to nudge higher after saying it aims to up production by 75% in 2012 as it improves recovery methods and efficiency.Oil and gas firm Ophir Energy was also moving in the right direction, having appointed Lisa Mitchell as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with immediate effect. Mitchell has over 20 years experience as a senior finance officer in the oil and gas, mining and resources sectors.
