Shares in precious metals companies led gains as gold futures were in the green, as investors sought out safe-havens. Centamin was doing best as gold futures for February delivery rose 1.37% to $1,220.50. Stock in platinum miner Lonmin was also outperforming.Meanwhile, energy stocks were still failing as oil futures continue their heavy decline. Nostrum Oil & Gas and Ophir Energy were both receding early in the day. Front month crude futures were continuing on their recent sharp drops come Tuesday, sliding by 3.86% to hit $48.08 per barrel on NYMEX.Stock in pub operator Mitchells&Butler's were to be found near the top of the leader-board after Morgan Stanley upgraded the stock to overweight from equal-weight.Shares in Ocado lost ground after news broke of the latest round in the UK supermarket price as Asda ploughed its largest ever investment into grocery price cuts and Tesco and Sainsbury were rumoured to be in the midst of their own significant price investments. That is one of the last things an already low-margin firm needs.
