Insurance and reinsurance firm Amlin was higher after revealing a first-half profit compared to a loss the same time a year earlier as catastrophe loss activity reduced sharply. House-builder Bovis Homes rose after seeing profits come in ahead of forecasts in the first half, helping the firm to double its interim dividend. Platinum miner Lonmin was lower, extending last week's losses following several downgrades from brokers on the back of disruption and violence at its Marikana project in South Africa resulted in the deaths of as many as 44 people. Rival unions were striking over pay.
