TUI Travel led the FTSE 100 race Wednesday after the tour operator said bookings were up.The owner of Thomson and First Choice revealed winter sales were up 2.0% in total, while summer UK and Nordic bookings rose 9.0%. Lloyd's is higher after analysts at Citi reiterated their 'buy' recommendation on the lender, saying that the recent worries which have been weighing on its shares are overdone and, in fact, offer an attractive entry point. Following close behind, Randgold Resources shares gained as gold rebounded from earlier losses to above $1,600 an ounce, in reaction to the uncertainty surrounding the Eurozone periphery. Prudential, on the other hand, retreated after the insurance giant went ex-dividend. The firm was also hit by a £30m fine from the Financial Services Authority over its 2010 bid to buy AIA, the Asian subsidiary of US-based AIG.Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS) defended itself against the Bank of England's warning that UK banks have a £25bn capital shortfall. RBS said its capital was strong but it did little to help its shares, as analysts said the bank scared the market with its unprovoked announcement.
