Supermarket giant J Sainsbury was the star performer on an otherwise dull day for Footsie on rumours that sovereign wealth fund Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) was considering another bid for the supermarket group. The QIA dropped a proposed 600p per share, or £10.2bn, bid for Sainsbury's in November 2007 but still retains a 26% stake. Talk today was of a deal worth 420p per share or £8bn. Miner Xstrata's decision to scrap plans to bid for Anglo American had its rival nursing big losses. The announcement came after a put-up or shut-up ruling following an appeal by Anglo to the Takeover Panel over the disruption to its business caused by the interest from Xstrata.FTSE 100 - RisersSainsbury (J) (SBRY) 346.20p +11.28%ICAP (IAP) 466.70p +4.97%3i Group (III) 308.80p +4.08%G4S (GFS) 239.10p +3.02%London Stock Exchange Group (LSE) 922.00p +2.96%Serco Group (SRP) 544.00p +2.93%Experian Group (EXPN) 556.00p +2.68%Kingfisher (KGF) 239.90p +2.30%FTSE 100 - FallersInternational Power (IPR) 267.40p -3.19%Anglo American (AAL) 2,244.00p -2.90%Randgold Resources (RRS) 4,558.00p -2.44%SEGRO (SGRO) 377.60p -2.43%Petrofac Ltd (PFC) 999.00p -2.25%Invensys (ISYS) 304.90p -2.15%Lonmin (LMI) 1,710.00p -1.95%Cairn Energy (CNE) 2,995.00p -1.80%
