FTSE 100 movers: Lloyds Banking

5th Aug 2009 14:57

Lloyds Banking shares are up over 12% as investors bet that the worst of the bad debts that caused an underlying loss of £4bn in the half year to June have passed. Impairment charges jumped by nearly £11bn to £13.4bn, reflecting huge write-downs of HBOS's commercial property loans. Lloyd's expects these to come down from here. Royal Bank of Scotland, which reports on Friday, is up in sympathy as is Barclays. British Airways is a big riser too after its peers reported good numbers. Continental Airlines released robust traffic figures for July yesterday while Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific returned to profits in the first-half. AstraZeneca, BG Group, F&C Inv Trust, Reckitt Benckiser Group, Shell and Thomas Cook all going ex-dividend has unsettled Footsie.FTSE 100 - RisersLloyds Banking Group (LLOY) 94.43p +12.06%British Airways (BAY) 163.30p +8.72%Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS) 49.80p +6.80%Kazakhmys (KAZ) 971.00p +6.24%Hammerson (HMSO) 377.30p +6.01%Land Securities Group (LAND) 573.50p +5.91%InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) 724.50p +5.69%Prudential (PRU) 465.60p +4.94%FTSE 100 - FallersRoyal Dutch Shell 'B' (RDSB) 1,518.00p -3.44%Royal Dutch Shell 'A' (RDSA) 1,539.00p -3.21%Reckitt Benckiser Group (RB.) 2,763.00p -2.95%BG Group (BG.) 1,008.00p -2.80%Rexam (REX) 229.50p -2.75%Reed Elsevier (REL) 437.80p -2.69%Randgold Resources (RRS) 3,717.00p -2.65%Standard Life (SL.) 192.00p -1.94%
