(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was up 0.1% at 10,719.61 in afternoon trade on Thursday.

JD Sports was the standout gainer on the index, having slumped on Wednesday after it posted a slide in half-year earnings and warned that the tough conditions seen in the first half were set to continue.

The retailer reported a 0.7% decline in sales to £5.9bn in the 26 weeks to 1 August, with like-for-like sale down 2.8%. Operating profits were 20.5% lower at £294m, while pre-tax profits before adjusting items slid 19.7% to £282m.

Ithaca Energy and BP were also in the black as oil prices rose again.

B&Q and Castorama owner Kingfisher was knocked lower by a downgrade to 'hold' from 'buy' at Investec, which lifted its price target to 355p from 340p.

Standard Life, St James's Place and Investec all fell, with the financials sector under pressure as the global bond selloff pushed yields sharply higher, weighing on life insurers and asset managers.
