(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was down 0.1% at 9,517.52 in afternoon trade on Friday, well off earlier lows.

Melrose and Rolls-Royce were in the red amid reports of a potential peace plan to end the Ukraine war.

Heavily-weighted miners Antofagasta and Glencore both fell in tandem with copper prices.

Amid growing concerns about an AI bubble, Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust and Pershing Square Holdings - both of which have exposure to the US tech sector - were among the worst performers.

Precious metals miner Fresnillo lost its shine as gold and silver prices fell.

Going the other way, housebuilders Persimmon, Barratt Redrow and Berkeley were among the best performers on the index as data boosted rate cut expectations.

Earlier, a survey showed that growth in the UK private sector eased in November as decisions were put on hold in the run-up to the Budget, raising the chances of an interest rate cut next month.

The S&P Global flash UK PMI composite output index fell to 50.5 from 52.2 in October.

Games Workshop was in the black again, having rallied on Thursday after saying in a brief update that it expected to report a jump in sales and profit for the six months to 30 November.
